President Bush is pissed. After 9/11, the federal government forcefully strong-armed the telephone companies into caving in to illegal wire taps, foregoing the law, necessary warrants, and due process. They finally confessed to the illegal wire taps.

The FBI obtained 2,176 FISA warrants to perform wiretaps to monitor “people of interest”. They recorded 27,728,675 sessions [conversations?]. Does anyone wonder how they performed 10,000 recordings per FISA approval? Is anyone concerned about an invasion of privacy?

Remember the Do Not Call Registry? This registry was born in 2003 and was set to expire this year. You could register with the DNCR and have your phone number removed from telemarketers’ use for five years. After five years, you’d have to re-register.
